As co-author of the recent book, THE JOBS REVOLUTION:CHANGING HOW AMERICA WORKS, Roberts T. Jones brings a very unique perspective on the public policy trends that impact our nations education and training systems. A life long advocate for investing in people, he is widely credited with helping place workforce development at the forefront of the nation’s public policy agenda.
Bob is the President of Education & Workforce Policy, LLC, a policy consulting firm whose singular focus is the advancement of education, training, and workforce policy. He also serves as the President of the MTC Institute, the policy and research arm of the Management and Training Corp.
Bob has served as the President and CEO of the National Alliance of Business, the Assistant Secretary of Labor under President Reagan and again under President Bush, senior positions in two major U.S. corporations, and as a Chief of Staff to two US Congressman. Having held senior leadership positions in the legislative, the executive branch, and extensive experience in the private sector, he has been personally engaged in every major piece of education, training, and workforce legislation for the past 40 years. He played a key role in the landmark research project and report, Workforce 2000: Work and Workers for the 21st Century and was responsible for the Department of Labor's SCANS Commission, which for the first time spelled out the skills necessary for success in the workplace.
Bob serves on the board of the Business Higher Education Forum (BHEF), is a member of the AAC&U National Leadership Council for Liberal Education & America's Promise(LEAP), is a Commissioner on the Senior College Accreditation Commission of the Western Assocuation of Colleges and Unirversities (WASC), the Board of Advisors for the Ray Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resources at the Univ of Tex, and is a member of the Global Advisory Board of CompTIA. Bob also serves on the board of the Management and Training Corporation (MTC), the Board of Jones International University (JIU), and the UAW Labor Employment and Training Corporation(LETC).
He is an 'emeritus' member of the board of ACT and has completed service on the boards of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the National Center for Education Accountability (NCEA), National Council on Teaching-Americas Future (NCTAF), the National Teacher Hall of Fame (NTHF), and the National Council for Economic Education (NCEE).
Bob was awarded the Presidential Distinguished Executive Award, the highest honor in federal government. Bob is a graduate of the University of Redlands, served four years as an officer in the United States Air Force, and is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church.
